Bi cycle Diaries

Wow it was an exciting day at CKP yesterday!Putting up a show was lots of fun and challenge for all of us. The chai walas (tea vendors), the Kadalekai Gaadi(Peanut vendor),the Eleneru guy(Coconut vendor) and the fruit chat vendor were all there serving us all those lovely things .Beautifully laid out display boards of the all the brain storming sessions and the pictures taken around the city were also a part of the display. While talking to these vendors we realized that they actually worship there bi cycles as they have been earning there livelihoods for some many years riding along this two wheeled wonder. Each one had there bit , as to why they love doing what they are doing. One thinks its the best way to escape from the cops than sitting in a market area while another says the reason for his robust personality is his bi-cycle and so on.For so many years people have used bi cycles in their professions in India and still continue to use them very happily. Not just economical its also the most convenient form of transport. for all these people.During the workshop we have identified those few professions who could possibly start using bi cycles like the pizza delivery guys, sugar cane vendor or even a medi cycle. The workshop did attract a lot of attention form the youngsters, who thought cycling was really cool. And were jumping at the idea of having cycling tracks and cycling theme parks in the city for various kinds of stunts and adventure sports or even at customizing their bicycles and giving it there own style through various accessories and embellishments. Some 47% of India's current 1 billion population is under the age of 20, and teenagers among them number about 160 million. So this is an interesting fact to get a lot of them cycling. So through ideas like cycling treasure hunts, date on a bi cycle, best looking bi cycle contest, paint a bike ride and so many more of such events we can have all of them on track.
